Club Programs

We host numerous events throughout the year, as well as help students from our area and support local charities.  Here is a glimpse; as we get closer to these events, you’ll find more details on the News and Photos Page, as well as on the Events Calendar
  • Scholarship Program: One of NDSEVA’s primary missions is to raise funds in support of its scholarship program for local students.  Through membership dues, contributions and fund-raising events, NDSEVA is able to provide partial, four year renewing scholarships for a local student in each class at Notre Dame.  Contact: Kevin Zywna.
  • Fr. Hesburgh Lecture: Since 1986, the Hesburgh Lecture Series has brought a taste of Notre Dame’s academic excellence to alumni and their local communities.  NDSEVA sponsors an annual lecture to perpetuate the example of President Emeritus Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., as a lifelong learner.  These lectures are typically held during the May at Princess Anne High School.  Contact: Phil Russo.
  • Alumni Schools Coordinator: NDSEVA’s ASC assists the Admissions Office in recruiting prospective students from the area by attending college fairs or planning information nights, and coordinates the student send-off once students have been admitted.  The ASC also serves as the touch point for all NDSEVA area students while attending Notre Dame.  Contact: Joe Hurley
  • Summer Service Learning Projects: The Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP) enables a current Notre Dame student to spend eight weeks during summer volunteering in our community. In exchange for their work, they receive a tuition credit and earn three credits in theology.  NDSEVA supports the tuitino funding and some student expenses; members provide housing and fellowship. Contact: Andre Hutchinson
  • Soup Kitchens: A crucial mission of NDSEVA is to support those in need in our community.  Our goal is to serve the needy in our community each quarter, alternating between the Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen in Norfolk’s Ghent neighorhood and Oasis in Portsmouth. These are charitable, non-profit organizations that sponsor a thrift shop and offer food, clothing, and household and financial assistance to the needy. Contact: Kate Wiltrout.
  • Game Watch Program: Watching football together is in our blood. We gather each Saturday at game time to watch the Irish at Shorebreak Pizza, 2941 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach.  Reservations encouraged at (757) 481-9393.
  • Monogram Club: The Monogram Program Coordinator assists any Notre Dame athletic team visiting our area.  Contact: Michele Solaroli
  • Hospital Support Program: The Hospital Support Program is a service provided by the Notre Dame Club Network and the Alumni Association. The program was founded to assist members of the Notre Dame Family when hospitalized while away from home—whether planned in advance or the result of an accident or illness while traveling.  This program extends to all of the Notre Dame Family including alumni, students, spouses, children, parents, employees, and subway alumni.  Contact: Dr. Pat O’Connell ’79 through the program at 1-877-435-7086 or by email
  • Universal Notre Dame Night: In 1924, John H. Neeson, class of 1903 and then President of the Alumni Association, began Universal Notre Dame Celebrations with all clubs meeting annually on a designated night.  These days, UND night serves as a "State of the University" for local alumni, with visits from a University official. We are honored that our guest speaker for 2009 is Mr. John Affleck- Graves, Executive Vice President.  Contact: Kevin Zwyna
  • Communion Mass and Breakfast: Sharing in the Liturgy and the Eucharist is a most important fellowship mission of NDSEVA.  The first Sunday of December, our club celebrates the 10:00 AM Communion Mass at Star of the Sea Church in Virginia Beach.  This is followed by a breakfast buffet by the fireside at Murphy’s Irish Bar, also in Virginia Beach. Contact: Carlin Hebert
  • Shamrock Marathon:  This is a great way for our club to share the Notre Dame spirit with thousands of athletes in a single day.  Club volunteers man the water station at the base of the Ft. Story Lighthouse (the lighthouse depicted in our logo!). Our water stop is the turnaround point for both the marathon and half marathon and one of the scenic stops on the route.  Enjoy food and beverages as you help quench the thirst of thousands of runners. Contact: Todd Parker
  • God, Country, Notre Dame NROTC Midshipmen BBQ: Located within NDSEVA are 13 major military facilities - future duty stations for young military officers from the ND ROTC programs.  Each summer, NDSEVA’s many military members and retirees host a barbeque for ND Navy ROTC midshipmen serving their orientation tour of the Navy career paths. The evening gives them a chance to relax amidst a hectic schedule while offering mentoring at a critical point in the student’s military career.  Contact: Matt Bannon
  • Student Send Off: Each summer, NDSEVA hosts a send-off party for new and current ND students and their families. Meet other incoming students and their parents, current students and local alumni before you head to campus.  Contact: Joe Hurley
  • Pool Party: It’s late July and it’s Virginia Beach.  What better way for the NDSEVA family to share our spirit than a pool party and barbeque, bringing together the entire community of alumni, friends, family, students and parents?  Look for details on this event on our calendar as plans are finalized in June.
